| Scientist, Teacher... Archie Carr was as unique a creature as those he wrote about. Carr's five children remember clearly that "adventure was a state of mind for him. To go anywhere with father was fun." For his students, "Archie was incredibly inspirational without appearing to work at it." Dr. Frank Nordley, Chair of the Zoology Department of the University of Florida, says simply, "As a colleague he was without peer." |

| And Writer His wife, Marjorie, declared that "Archie was a poet." E.O. Wilson, Harvard zoologist, agrees: "Carr fashions poetry out of sheer exuberance, and he animates natural history like no other writer before him." Pulitzer Prize winning author William Warner acknowledges that Carr inspired and encouraged him to become a writer. Excerpts from Carr's Florida writings -- A Naturalist in Florida -- have recently been published by Yale University Press. |
